Today we released a big feature that’s been waiting in the wings for a long time; Places. Places are a new way of finding and grouping events, by, you guessed it, the place where the event is happening.
There is a new “places” page, which you can find next to the “events” page at the top of the site. This page lists places in your network and places that you own. Only public places will show up in this list (more about this later). You can look at a place’s details, see a list of all past and future events at that place, and post public comments, on a place’s page.
You can also add new events at an existing place. You can add a new event from a place’s page, using the mini quick add event widget. Or, you can choose an existing place and attach it to an event from the event edit page.
We envision this as another way to find, keep track of, and publicize interesting events.
We also make sure that you can only add new events to existing places which are public. This way, you don’t have to worry whether your friends will be able to see the place attached to a new event that you created.
Some long-time Mosuki users might notice they have a few duplicate places in their network. We are working on a way to consolidate some places in the database. We also expect that, over time, favorite, more accurate, commonly-used versions of each place will emerge, and become “dominant.” In many ways, places expands the experiment in collaboration that is Mosuki.
We’ve also made a few more minor changes. The “home” page is gone from the header, and logging in takes you straight to your calendar. The error messages when you’re not logged in are a bit friendlier. The date parser in the mini quick add event widget is a bit better about guessing the correct time. The “Cancel” button on events has come back to stay this time, and places have a corresponding “Close down” button. The site layout has been slightly cleaned up and improved. And the site should be just a tad faster.
As always, get in touch with us if you have any comments, questions, or suggestions: feedback (at) mosuki.com.
